Ubud, Central Java (the cultural centre)

Many people describe Ubud as the cultural centre of Java and it came with a high recommendation from a good friend of mine, Dovey, and quite a few backpackers who i met along the way.

They weren't wrong. Its become a spa town and its absolutely beautiful.

Unfortunately, as i still couldn't shake my cold, i was feeling sorry for myself so i booked myself into a more pricey guest house recommended in the lonely planet - Sania's House, with hot water, AC, and breakfast for £21 a night.
I had been prescribed some antibiotics in Kuta. They were strong and i was told not to drink alchohol or eat very spicy food for the next 3 or 4 days while i completed the course..Ubud is perfect for this as people dont come here for the night life but for the culture..

The guest house like the rest of Ubud was absolutely beautiful...my room actually had a four poster bed...

..and a lovely balcony...

This was the courtyard...they really take care to make their buildings as ornate as possible...

During the day i wandered around the town. There ae lots of arts and crafts shops and other selling balinese silks and dresses. I think women would go mad in this town. Some of the shop buildings themselves were really amazing ..

...as well as lots of ornate statues...the first one here was fashioned from normal brick..

The Balinese are manily Hindu so there are lots of hindu temples. I went to visit one on the second day..absolutely beautiful..

I passed this resto which is famous in Ubud. All it serves is roasted suckling pig, which is a speciality of Bali.. I stopped eating young animals like this and veal for ethical reasons a while back now, but i would have really enjoyed it if I still ate this stuff...
