Jakarta, Indonesia (the Big Durian)

On friday i flew out to Jakarta, Indonesia, also known as the big durian...

Indonesia is the most populous muslim country with something like 255 million people. Half of those live in Jakarta, a huge, sprawling city, with a network of concrete motorways, infamous for its traffic jams... and surprise, surprise the rain followed me ...

The bus from the airport took about 2 hours but the journey cost £1.40 !! Now thats what i call a bargain..!

I found a hotel in the backpacking area - Jalan Jaksa, much smaller than the Khoa san road in bangkok but more intimate .. i was a bit miffed to be paying £17 a night for a room with AC and hotwater, but i think prices have just increased in Jakarta..

I had a great time here, met some local guys who introduced me to lots of their friends and other tourists ..we met every evening in the 'memories cafe'... which was funny as the only thing which was fuzzy the next day, was my memory...

...largely due to the local brewed Bintang (local beer)...

..one of the tourists was a swiss DJ called Alex, who was celebrating his birthday and who just couldn't help gesticulating at the camera :)... maybe a habit in Geneva ? :)

...the other guy is Kris, a guide and a really decent guy, from Sumatra, who helped me a lot during my stay...
