The hotel had a nice little pool :

...and was five minutes walk to the beach. On the first day, i got to the beach by sunset.
There were lots of guys selling cold beer and providing seats to relax in, so i watched the sun set with a few other tourists and some Bintang ..

The next evening, as it was saturday night, i couldn't resist going to some live music bars in the Kuta area. This really was a mad area, with hoards of drunk tourists milling about, with a smattering of local teenagers, taxi touts all weaving in and out of hoards of scooters.. but unlike the seaside resorts in the UK, i observed no aggressive behaviour, it was all good natured... probably, the most pressing danger was of a 20 something inebriated aussie girl keeling over onto you & knocking you into the gutter, but it didnt happen.... i did hear from other people of girls falling into open manholes and fracturing their arms etc.. nasty... I actually had a really good time despite the booze fuelled chaos and hitched a lift back to my hotel on a motor bike.. i think ive never travelled so many times on a motorbike without wearing a crash helmet as ive done in Java...
I would have stayed a day or 2 more but my hotel was so popular because of its value for money, that i couldnt extend my room...so i caught a shuttle bus up to the cultural centre of Bali - Ubud.
