When i got back from the tour of Borobodur, i had lunch with a few people i'd chatted to on the tour.
I told them my room cost IDR 150,000 (about £10) per night for an ensuite and hot water.
The conversation went something like this :
Backpacker : "I think you're paying too much. We're only paying IDR 80,000 per night"
Me : "But do you have an ensuite and hot water ?"
Backpacker : "Well theres no hot water, but we've sort of got an attached shower"
Me : "What do you mean?"
Backpacker : "Well we have a squat toilet with a shower fixed to the wall over it "
Backpacker2 : "Yeah, its ok, you have to stand on the squat plate when you shower but you can wear your flip-flops..."
I'm sorry, but a squat plate is NOT what i call a proper toilet with a flush facility, and having a shower over the toilet... ABSOLUTELY NO WAY MAN !!!
I thought, they're welcome to their room, i prefer mine...
In the evening, caught a flight to Bali for around £40 bucks. Most of the indonesian airlines, bar Garuda and Indonesian Air Asia are blacklisted by the European Aviation authorities, so i flew Garuda, which was quite nice...i heard the southern beach area of Bali, Kuta (where i was heading) was full of drunk aussies (now there's nothing worse than that eh Samia / sheh ?).... On the plane, there was one aussie guy sitting next to me & when this indonesian lady asked to sit in the window seat next to him, he replied loudly " Ahhh, you can sit on my lap dear ..."..i thought, oh dear, a taste of things to come... :)
Thought Bali was going to break the bank, but managed to find a 2 star hotel with pool for £11 a night with breakfast...ok, the room didnt have hot water, but it was clean and had a new bathroom !!! - at last, was getting tired of the damp, run down bathrooms attached to the rooms i'd been staying in till now...
... and i just new i'd booked at the right place when i saw the sign, "Happy Hours (24 hours) Lrg Beer 22,000).. :)
