The Canadian girls left the next day for the capital Vientiane and then to Hanoi in Vietnam. I decided to stay on as i wanted to explore Luang Prabang for a day or two more. We swapped contact details and i hope to meet up with them in Vietnam...
Each province in Laos has a Royal family. Surviving members fled the communist Pathet Lao army and i believe they now reside in France. Their residence in Luang Prabang was turned into a museum...
Within the walls was the obligatory Wat (temple) which was beautifully maintained...
Opposite the national museum was a temple on a hill. To get to it you had to walk up 320 steps ...but the view from the top was phenomenal...
I finished off my wanderings that day by stopping at the 'Tamarind restaurant' (which the Canadian girls had discovered earlier) for a late lunch. Here you could order a 'taster' selection of Lao food ...
Clockwise from top right, it consisted of Luang Prabang sausage (pork), dried buffalo meat in a sweet marinade, vegetarian spring rolls, young bamboo shoots and some kind of leaf with garlic. All the tasters were superb !
