Luang Prabang

Named after the 'Prabang' Buddha statue brought here by a Khmer king, the World Heritage town of Luang Prabang is an amazing place.

The Canadian girls and I stepped off the slow boat and made our way up the steps to the main road where we'd read a lot of the guest houses were. After wandering around, we settled on this one.. it was a tad expensive weighing in at GBP 12 - 12.50 a night, but had AC, cable and nice rooms and the girls seemed set on a bit of luxury after the boat journey, so i got a room there too. It was a lovely place..

The guest house 'Phousi 1' like most of the buildings in Luang Prabang were typically French in design..and the rooms here were lovely..convinced they were over-charging us (thinking back to the rate i paid in Pak Beng) i planned to go looking for a cheaper guest house the next morning, but liked it here so much, i stayed...

I hired a (push) bike for a day for GBP 1.50 and took a ride round...
The streets here just oozzed character...

...as did the restaurants..
