Kouang Si Waterfall

The next day, one of the Canadian girls was ill, so Marie, myself and the English couple decided to go to see one of the waterfalls nearby. We didn't join a tour through an agency but hired a 'Sangtheauw' (tuk tuk with two benches at the back) directly, to save some money. This way, the 30 min journey to the waterfall and back and entrance fee cost us GBP 4.50 each :)

There was a bear santuary nearby, which was very well kept. The bears had a large area to roam around in and lots of trees and obstacles to climb and play with. Most importantly they weren't made to do circus acts or paraded for the amusement of tourists (which i've seen before in Thailand) which was very good....here's the young bear's enclosure..

The waterfall itself was really impressive and probably one of the most beautiful i've seen on my travels ...i think the emerald colour of the water is due to minerals...the presence of a lot of butterflies on the edge of the pools underscored this fact...

We then climbed right to the top which was quite steep on mud steps, and boy did i sweat..though i didn't moan once about the climb as i didn't want to look like the 'old codger' in the group (everyone else was about 15 years younger)....this is where the water fall begins..

...by the time we climbed down, we were all drenched in sweat, so we got into our swimming gear and went for a dip. The water was a perfect temperature and there was a rope swing in one of the pools ...

We enjoyed the waterfall so much, we spent about about 3 hours there...
