Bangkok revisited...

I got a mini-bus from the Thai border to 'Trat', a southern town which acts as the main transport hub with connections between the beaches of Koh Chang, Koh Samet, Pattaya and Bangkok.

As it was the rainy season on this side of the gulf of Thailand and I was still feeling a little unwell, i decided to skip the islands of Koh Chang and Koh Samet. As i also didn't want my meals served with a large side-order of sleaze, i decided to skip Pattaya too and head straight for Bangkok.

I caught a local bus from Trat to Bangkok for 5 GBP (which admittedly was really comfortable compared to local Cambodian buses!) at 11am, and by 17pm i was in Bangkok's eastern bus terminal.
When you've been backpacking for a while, you can do bus journeys of under 8 hours with ease :)

I've now checked into an up-scale guest house near the backpacker area - Khoa San - (16 GBP per night but its got a lovely balcony and satellite TV), while i recouperate from my chest infection and i wait for my flight back to Colombo on the 1st July.
(Not too soon either, as the Thai elections are on the 3rd July and there's always a period of unrest afterwards..last time i was here during this type of political unrest, they closed all the airports and i was stuck for 2 weeks !)

This will be my last 'regular' post till around mid-August, when i leave Sri Lanka again.
I may post a few adhoc ones, every now and again...

I'm not exactly sure where i'll be headed but it may be the Thai Islands/ Vietnam/ Phillipines and then India (or a combination of these)....

...take care and enjoy the summer !
